Wiki talk...

  1. Summarize your experience exploring the wiki sites on your Web 2.0 Technology Blog.
Exploring wiki sites was a great experience. I have used this technology in the past so it’s nice to view how other teachers and experts utilize this tool. I appreciate how collaborative some of the examples given truly are. Teacher’s use of wikis provides students a portal for immediate content creation, editing, and posting. Also, this technology closely mirrors the real world in terms of teaching students to write professionally when all eyes are on your content and your tone and mannerisms cannot be seen by those who are on the receiving end.
  1. Discuss your experience exploring the wiki sites and creating your wiki.
Creating my own wiki has been a productive experience. I created a wiki this past fall for both my Business Law and International Business classes. These wikis have been utilized as a landing page for students to find basic course information, a portal for students to post and collaborate on projects, and a tool for immediate feedback. Plus, creating a wikispace eliminated the excuse students would give of forgetting their flash drive. Now all information is posted and saved simultaneously online, and students can even access and update the information at home! I love this part of my wikis!!!
  1. Publish your thoughts on using PBWiki or one of the other wiki sites in the classroom.
As stated previously, I have used wikispaces for my Business Law and International Business class at Hononegah High School. I favor this wiki builder because of its ease of use and visual appeal.  I also like how you can place links, files and widgets to help improve the functionality of the site. Students like how realistic the tasks are using the wiki as it mirrors common business practices. Overall, I plan to continue to utilize wikispaces to build my wikis.

      4.       Provide a link to the wiki that you created. Highlight at least one example of how you might use a wiki in your classroom and how this lesson/activity will support the Common Core and meet one or more of the NETS-S.

I utilized this wiki page for students to post reviews on current legislative acts and prominent governmental agencies that pertain to Cyberlaw. Students had to review the assigned act or agency then post a summary of the material. They also had to link to the web source and present their summary and link to the class.
