Blog use and standards.

As stated in a previous blog I plan to utilize a blog in my business law class utilizing the RSS feature, linking to reputable news sources, and link articles and case studies for review. My hope is then that students will be able to share information with their classmates, collaborate on case studies, and peer review articles. This assignment is meant to last all semester with bi-weekly posts required.

This assignment will support the Common Core Standards of:

Reading Standards for Literacy in Technical Subjects - RST
  • Key Ideas and Details
Read closely to determine what the text says explicitly and to make logical inferences from it; cite specific textual evidence when writing or speaking to support conclusions drawn from the text.
  • Craft and Structure
Interpret words and phrases as they are used in a text, including determining technical, connotative, and figurative meanings, and analyze how specific word choices shape meaning or tone
  • Integration of Knowledge and Ideas
Delineate and evaluate the argument and specific claims in a text, including the validity of the reasoning as well as the relevance and sufficiency of the evidence.
Writing Standards for Literacy in Technical Subjects - WHST
  • Text Types and Purposes
Write arguments to support claims in an analysis of substantive topics or texts, using valid reasoning and relevant and sufficient evidence.
  • Production and Distribution of Writing 
Use technology, including the Internet, to produce and publish writing and to interact and collaborate with others.
It will also cover the NETS-S standards of:

1. Creativity and Innovation
  • A. Apply existing knowledge to generate new ideas, products, or processes
  • B. Create original works
2. Communication and Collaboration
  • A. Interact, collaborate, and publish with peers, experts, or others employing a variety of digital environments and media
  • B. Communicate information and ideas effectively to multiple audiences using a variety of media and formats
  • D. Contribute to project teams to produce original works or solve problems
